Background of the Study

E-tourism platforms, which enable travelers to plan, book, and manage their travel experiences online, have revolutionized the global travel industry (Ajiboye & Salami, 2024). These platforms offer convenience and a wide range of options, allowing users to compare prices, book flights and accommodations, and access travel reviews from the comfort of their own homes. As digitalization continues to reshape the tourism sector, traditional travel agencies face increasing competition from e-tourism platforms that provide direct access to global travel products.

In Kwara State, local travel agencies have traditionally served as intermediaries between customers and travel service providers, offering personalized travel experiences and packages. However, the rise of e-tourism platforms such as booking websites and online tour operators has led to disruptions in the travel agency business model. This study will investigate the impact of e-tourism platforms on the operations and financial performance of local travel agencies in Kwara State, exploring the challenges and opportunities created by the digital transformation of the tourism industry.

Statement of the Problem

The advent of e-tourism platforms has posed a significant challenge to local travel agencies in Kwara State, as these agencies struggle to compete with the convenience and cost-effectiveness of online booking systems. While e-tourism platforms offer greater accessibility to a global market, they may undermine the traditional travel agency model, which relies on face-to-face interactions and personalized services.
